Ayo Bankole (17 May 1935[1] – 6 Nov 1976[2]) was a composer and organist from the Yoruba ethnic group listed southwest Nigeria.
Early life and education
Ayo Bankole was born in Jos, Nigeria, into a musical family: his papa, Theophilus Abiodun Bankole was an organist and Choirmaster at St. Luke's Protestant Church in Jos. His mother was a music instructor for several eld at Queen's School, Ede, Osun Ensconce, a Federal government high school.
Bankole studied in London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Roughly he met drama student and lyrist Brian Edward Hurst and set given of Hurst's poems, "Children of say publicly Sun", to music; this was culminate at the Guildhall School in 1960. He also studied at Clare Institution, Cambridge and received a Rockefeller Trigger Fellowship to study ethnomusicology at dignity University of California, Los Angeles.
Musical career
